Head of the Class

On Saturday we rolled out our first ever Heads Up Championship. We filled a bracket of 32 players, drew random matchups and let the cards fly. With 16 matchups in the first round, we had matchups ending as soon as the second level of play and our last matchup ended during level nine. This sent 16 players to the second round. The players that made it through the second round of play would be in the money. The second round saw one player eliminated six minutes into level one and another matchup last into level 8.

With everyone remaining now in the money, players were battling to move up the pay table and advance to round 4. Gus V. (Binghamton, NY) eliminated Kyle Gib. (Rochester, NY) to advance to the semifinals. Adam McC. (Towanda, PA) knocked out Jake Gel. (Corning, NY) to set up a semi-final matchup with Gus. Paycheck (Binghamton, NY) was down to less than 6,000 chips but managed a furious comeback to send Ben Med. to the rail. In our last quarterfinal matchup, Scott Str. (Port Crane, NY) put himself in an early deficit against Dan Whe. (Albany, NY). Scott’s resilience shown through as he battled back to take a commanding chip lead but Dan would not go away easily. The two traded chips for several levels before Dan moved on to the semi-finals. Kyle, Jake, Ben & Scott all received $220 for their third round exits.

In the semifinals, Gus V. couldn’t win a coin flip, leading to his exit and propelling Adam McC. into the finals. Paycheck and Dan Whe. traded chips for a short while before all of the chips ended up in Dan’s stack, setting up our finals matchup. Gus & Paycheck each received $450 for their semi-final finishes.

The finals got off to a quick start but it was Dan Whe.’s day. Dan finished Adam off in the third level of play, claiming the championship. Adam’s impressive debut at 607poker.com earned him an $800 payout. Dan took home our Championship trophy and $1,260 for making his way through this loaded field.
